Valtteri Bottas won the Austrian GP 2017. However, Sebastian Vettel smiled despite finishing second, while the distance from Lewis Hamilton spread.
In the race held at the Red Bull Ring Circuit on Sunday (2017/07/09), Bottas has a pole position in a position to maintain Vettel's "safe" position starting in second place.
Meanwhile, Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen, had a catastrophe when his car overturned on the first lap and had to return to the pits. Fernando Alonso had to go back to the pits.
Daniel Ricciardo has managed to maintain a third position, followed by Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen. A tough three-lap position before Raikkonen could overcome Grosjean to move up to fourth.
So where is Hamilton? Starting from the eighth position as punishment replaces the girboks directly on the strip after passing Sebastian Ocon. It did not take much time for Hamilton to overcome Sergio Perez in front of him and in sixth place. here
While Hamilton is busy staring at his position, Bottas has comfortably led the race followed by Vettel, who has been trying to find a gap to overcome his rivals. Ricciardo's third position is still faithful to follow Raikkonen.
Hamilton climbed another strip in fifth place on the eighth lap of Grosjean. Bottas has a 3.3 second advantage over Vettel while both Ricciardo are 2.2 seconds ahead of Raikkonen.
Going to round 17, Bottas extended the distance with Vettel to 5.2 seconds as Hamilton was still chasing Raikkonen in fourth. Slowly but surely Hamilton has managed to cut the time difference.
On lap 22, Hamilton ended up just 0.7 seconds behind the dispute Raikkonen was in danger of losing fourth place. Meanwhile, Mercedes GP could breathe a sigh of relief after the director said that there was no illegal action by Bottas when the race started.
Previously there was an indication that Bottas had a jump start when the race started and could do a penalty.
