sport24h David McGoldrick an injury doubt for Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Austria Sportivo

David McGoldrick is an injury doubt for the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Austria as he awaits the results of a scan on a knee problem.
The 29-year-old Ipswich striker sat out training as a precaution on Tuesday morning, but manager Martin O'Neill was not optimistic when asked about his chances of making the squad for Sunday's Group D clash at the Aviva Stadium.
O'Neill said: "David McGoldrick has had a niggle behind his knee which has come on a little bit.
"He has had a scan and we are just waiting for the results of that. But it is niggly and he is a bit concerned about it. I would say he's in doubt, yes."
McGoldrick has been battling Jonathan Walters and Daryl Murphy for a striking berth with Shane Long injured.
He is O'Neill's only fitness concern with midfielders Glenn Whelan, Jeff Hendrick and Harry Arter all having trained despite concerns over back, foot and ankle problems respectively.
