Brazil and Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho believes Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos has already had a positive impact on Australian football.
A fortnight ago NPLVIC side South Melbourne announced Carlos would coach the club's A-League side if they were permitted into the topflight.
Coutinho who starred in Brazil’s 1-0 loss to Argentina in front of more than 95,000 at the MCG on Friday, praised Carlos’ bold plan.
“Roberto Carlos is an idol from Brazil," Coutinho said at the Nike Futsal event on Saturday night.
"Since he came here it has been very positive for the country to take the opportunity to meet him and to get his knowledge about football."
Brazil next take on the Socceroos at the MCG – Coutinho treating the Australians with respect as they look to back up a 3-2 win over Saudi Arabia before leaving for the Confederations Cup.
“We’re (Brazil) expecting a great game (against the Socceroos), nowadays the football in general worldwide is very similar and tough so I expect a tough game and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“It’s going to be a great game. I’m very excited.”
The 24-year-old travelled with the Liverpool squad in their journey to Melbourne in 2013 but did not play due to a calf strain.
He however got to experience the atmosphere first-hand and drew similarities to the crowd which he saw during the Liverpool game four years ago.
“I remember when I was here some time ago, that there was so many people,” he said.
“This kind of atmosphere (on Friday) had the same feel about it.
“Against the Argentinians was a beautiful game and I was very surprised and happy because of the amount of people there and the show that was done prior to the game.
“I was excited, happy and let’s see how the next game goes.”
